Privacy Policy

PRIVACY POLICY

The Society for Corporate Governance respects your right to privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy summarizes the practices regarding information collection, use, and disclosure practices for our events and this website (societycorpgov.org).

What personal information do we collect when you register for a Society event?

When you register for a Society event, we collect personal information that you provide including your name, job title, email address, mailing address, telephone number, and type of company. We also collect other voluntarily provided information including your programming preferences and other information relevant to your attendance. Subject to your express consent at the time of registration, we may provide your name, registration email, and company affiliation to exhibitors and sponsors for one-time marketing use, and your name and company affiliation to program speakers for purposes of panel preparation.

How does the Society handle financial information?

As part of the event registration and/or membership registration/renewal processes, the Society may receive credit card information (including account number, name, billing address, etc.). The Society uses a reputable third-party payment processor to receive and process credit card payments for events and/or membership(s). The Society’s third-party payment processor undertakes commercially reasonable policies and practices intended to protect the financial information of Society registrants and members and to prevent unauthorized intrusions into its systems. Our third-party payment processor and the Society only retain the last four digits of a registrant’s and/or member’s credit card information for verification purposes. Credit card receipts (including company name, company contact, last four digits of credit card account) are retained for financial and audit purposes and are destroyed in accordance with related record retention standards.

In addition, the Society receives a small number of paper or emailed PDF registration, membership, or exhibitor/sponsorship forms that are processed manually. Paper forms are held securely at the Society’s offices and periodically destroyed. Copies are maintained offsite with a third-party secure information storage and management firm. Registration, membership, or exhibitor/sponsorship information received via email is retained only for the period of time necessary to service a particular event and/or exhibitor/sponsorship before deletion. The Society has retained a third-party technology support and security provider that employs commercially reasonable practices and policies intended to protect the personal and financial information of Society registrants, members, exhibitors, and sponsors, and to prevent unauthorized intrusions into the Society’s systems.

What personal information do we collect when you visit our website?

We collect and store any information you voluntarily enter on our website or provide to us in offline contacts we have with you. The following information is collected from visitors to our website, as applicable:

If you register for an event or to make a purchase, we will generally ask you to provide contact information and preferences regarding the event or material for which you desire to register. You may, however, visit certain publicly available portions of this website without registering. Other sections are only available to members and require membership and registration.

Some areas of this website may allow you to order products or services. In connection with these transactions, we collect data necessary to complete the transaction and that is furnished by you, which may include contact information, e-mail address, telephone number, and credit card information (if a cost is involved). As stated above, some areas of this website may allow you to conduct e-commerce transactions (event registration, publication purchase, etc.). In connection with these transactions, we collect data necessary to complete the transaction that is furnished by you. This information may be furnished to a third party if necessary to facilitate the transaction.
