New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and the New York City Pension Funds announced eight additional insurance and health care companies on top of last year's seven (see last year's report: "NYC Comptroller Pursues Gender Pay Equity Campaign") that agreed to enhance their gender pay gap disclosure in response to the funds' proposed shareholder proposal and related engagement on this topic.
The 2017-launched initiative targets insurance and health care industry companies because they reportedly have larger gender pay gaps than companies in other industries, in addition to female under-representation at the management and board levels. The proposal that triggered each engagement (sample here) calls for annual reporting on the company's gender pay gap and associated remedial measures, and encourages similar focus on race/ethnicity pay gaps. All of the companies that engaged and agreed to additional disclosure/reporting are identified in the release.
