Equilar's recent post: "50 Youngest U.S. Public Company Board Members" includes a number of noteworthy data points on the 50 youngest directors (median age of 39) at Equilar 500 companies, including their relative over-representation in the Services sector and lack of representation in Utilities:
Equilar observes: "The top three sectors for young directors—services, technology and financial—perhaps appeal to this generation of corporate workers because these industries are often considered exciting and quickly transforming with the rise of FinTech, especially the hot topic of digital currency."
Also notable is the relatively improved gender parity, with females representing 30% of the youngest director pool vs. the 80% male/20% female mix that characterizes the Russell 3000 - hopefully indicative of changing attitudes and practices among younger generations.
