Board Compensation: Mid-Market Public Companies

BDO's newly-released annual board compensation report details director compensation practices of 600 mid-market public companies in the energy, financial services–banking, financial services–nonbanking, healthcare, manufacturing, real estate, retail, and technology industries. 

Findings include:

  • Average total compensation paid to directors for fiscal 2017 was $122,393 for the Smallest companies ($100M - $500M); $177,023 for Mid-Tier companies ($500M - $1.25B), and $191,938 for the Largest companies ($1.25B - $3B).
  • Overall compensation mix consisted of 40% board retainers & fees, 5% committee retainers & fees, 47% full-value stock awards, and 8% stock options.
