Board Effectiveness: Consider These Leading Practices

By Randi Morrison posted 02-13-2019 08:52 PM

PwC's "The 9 questions you need to ask to take your board from good to great" addresses in a reader-friendly manner each of nine core board practices: (i) board composition; (ii) committee functioning; (iii) board and committee leadership; (iv) board agenda; (v) board meeting materials; (vi) management engagement; (vii) executive sessions; (viii) director education; and (ix) board assessments, with an overview of the topic's relevance, supporting benchmarking data, and thought-worthy suggested leading practices.

In addition to being a worthwhile standalone read for directors (e.g., Nom/Gov Committee members) and governance professionals, the publication is also well-suited to inform the board's annual performance evaluation process and/or populate board and committee meeting agendas. Among other things, the suggested best practices should help facilitate productive dialogue among directors about the board's current practices and potential enhancements.
