In this new article: "
Seven steps to a more strategic board
," Deloitte - informed by its numerous discussions with CEOs, board chairs, directors, academics, and external board advisers - identifies sound practices CEOs should consider to enhance their (and their management team's) relationship with the board and promote board effectiveness, particularly as relates to affirmatively shaping a CEO-board dynamic that is optimally positioned to tackle today's challenges and facilitate attainment of the company's strategy as it evolves over time. Among the overarching takeaways: CEOs can and should actively assume responsibility for their board's effectiveness via the their communications, interactions, expectations, demeanor, and leadership - and this article explains how.
The article includes select commentary from directors, CEOs and others that further support Deloitte's insights and suggestions, as well as action items for corporate secretaries and others within the company who facilitate board-management communications and interactions.
