Board Agenda 2020

By Randi Morrison posted 01-12-2020 04:33 PM

  • "Eight priorities for boards in 2020" from the EY Center for Board Matters is replete with thoughtful suggested action items and considerations for boards across the key areas of strategy, talent, and corporate culture (including suggested direct and indirect metrics); risk management, cybersecurity and data privacy; geopolitical risks; ESG risks and opportunities; long-term corporate value; and board performance. The report encourages boards to reassess their approach to a number of practices (e.g., the annual strategic "retreat," the board's reliance on particular sources of information, established management reporting frequencies, traditional board committee structure) that can tend to become rote over time and that may warrant changes to optimally manage the current environment.
  • In this new publication: "The 2020 boardroom agenda: More topics, more oversight," Deloitte identifies key hot topics - including corporate social purpose, sustainability, technology, and board composition - that are sure to occupy the board's time and resources this year - ready or not. Boards are urged to consider both the risks and the opportunities presented by trending topics such as social-related pressures/demands and technology. Instructive board practice insights and tips are sprinkled throughout.
