In the context of employees increasingly supporting or demanding management speak out on a wide variety of environmental, social, political, and other  issues, and the rise in use of social media – particularly by younger generations, “The Next Threat to M&A: Employee Activism” from Abernathy MacGregor outlines a number of factors and circumstances that signal heightened risks of employee disruption or derailment of companies’ M&A transaction plans. Importantly, management and boards should be cognizant of the trends and “ingredients” that make employee activism more likely so that they can seek to intercept an adverse activist development before it’s too late.
