JUST Capital’s new report: “The Current State of Environment Disclosure in Corporate America: Assessing What Data Russell 1000 Companies Publicly Share” reveals the results of its analysis of the latest available disclosures by Russell 1000 companies in SEC filings and sustainability reports across 13 environmental data points.

As to GHG emissions specifically, 57% of the Russell 1000 reportedly disclosed in some manner their Scopes 1 and 2 emissions; 10% disclosed Scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products; and 30% disclosed Scope 3 emissions from business travel, as shown here:

More broadly, consistent with other reports, the organization found a positive correlation between company size and carbon-intensive industries and disclosure of environmental data generally (including GHG emissions), with larger companies and companies in the “highest emitting industries” disclosing more data than smaller companies and companies in less carbon-intensive industries.

See JUST Capital’s release and our prior reports: “Most Large Companies Disclose Scopes 1 & 2 (Not Scope 3) GHG Emissions” and “Corporate Sustainability Disclosure Benchmarking.”
