Chief Human Resources Officer Engagement with the Board

Among other insights on practice trends, “The Evolving Role of the CHRO in the Boardroom” from The Conference Board signifies the increasing involvement of the chief human resources officer (CHRO) in the corporate governance structure based on recent survey data and publicly accessible filings.

Board meeting attendance. CHROs commonly regularly participate in full board meetings:

Board committee attendance. More than three-quarters of CHROs attend every Compensation Committee meeting and nearly 40% attend at least most Nom/Gov Committee meetings:

Notably, survey respondents (corporate secretaries or equivalent) foresee increasing prominence over the next three years of CHRO-Board of Directors interactions in relation to a broad array of topics, including addressing generational shifts in the workforce (61%) and AI and automation impacts on the workforce (49%), as well as more traditional topics such as employee engagement and retention and mental health and employee well-being (each at 33%).
