Georgeson’s Global Activism Report* includes numerous interesting statistics based on US – and North America-specific campaigns aimed at public companies initiated or concluded in 2024.

Among the key takeaways:

  • More than half (53%) of the activist activity in the US in 2024 targeted small-, micro-, and nano-cap companies, with one-third aimed at large-caps (>$10B).
  • By sector, more than one-third of the activity in the US in 2024 involved Consumer Cyclical and Tech companies (17% and 16%, respectively), with Utilities, Basic Materials, and Communication Services bringing up the rear:

  • Half of the 2024 campaigns in North America sought to remove or appoint directors or C-suite executives, with about half of those campaigns succeeding, at least in part, and some still pending.
