Numerous firms reported on the SEC Speaks 2025 conference held May 19 – 20 in Washington, DC. Among the noteworthy remarks are these from SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda commenting on the status of the SEC’s climate-related disclosure rule (noting the strain on Commission resources that would be associated with rescinding the rule); the ineffectiveness of financial disclosure regulation, e.g., the conflict minerals rule, to effect social change; and his explanation and defense of recent staff guidance on Schedule 13G, which, albeit unintended, has at least temporarily tempered shareholder engagement.
