SEC Speaks!

Numerous firms reported on the SEC Speaks 2025 conference held May 19 – 20 in Washington, DC. Among the noteworthy remarks are these from SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda commenting on the status of the SEC’s climate-related disclosure rule (noting the strain on Commission resources that would be associated with rescinding the rule); the ineffectiveness of financial disclosure regulation, e.g., the conflict minerals rule, to effect social change; and his explanation and defense of recent staff guidance on Schedule 13G, which, albeit unintended, has at least temporarily tempered shareholder engagement.

See these additional resources from or about the conference: remarks from SEC Chair Paul Atkins, Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw, and Commissioner Hester Peirce; KPMG’s Regulatory Alert; and these memos from Latham & Watkins, Ropes & Gray, Proskauer, and Winston & Strawn
