CARB posted draft guidance today to assist potentially in-scope companies with compliance with SB 261 (codified in Health and Safety Code § 38533), which requires climate-related financial risk disclosure beginning January 1, 2026. The “draft checklist” on pages 2 – 6, which largely reiterates the content of the slides prepared for and reviewed at the August 21 public workshop (which we reported on here), is accompanied by several FAQs with reference to the statute and/or previously posted FAQs (which we reported on here).
As previously reported, the Society plans to submit a member-informed comment letter on a variety of topics on or before September 11 that refines and builds on our March 2025 comment letter and our August 2025 position paper and associated materials previously shared with CARB.
The Society's submissions to CARB are posted on our state advocacy page, as well as our Climate Risk & Disclosure page Þ Society Views.
