NAVEX Global's newly-released "2018 Ethics & Compliance Hotline & Incident Management Benchmark Report" reveals key benchmarking data from organizations that received 10 or more hotline/incident reports in 2017 - consisting of 2,479 client organizations and 885,518 individual incident reports.

Noteworthy findings include:

  • Nearly 40% of all reports were received via “All Other Methods” (i.e., not via the hotline), which include walk-ins, emails, open door, etc.

  • Substantiation rates overall increased from 40% in 2016 to 44% (nearing half of all reports) in 2017 - the highest level recorded. Reports received via “All Other Methods” were substantiated at a substantial 64%. The substantiation rate increased in each allegation category, and increased significantly in HR, Diversity & Workplace Respect-related allegations.

  • The overall reporting rate remained at the 2016 median of 1.4 reports/100 employees.

  • Internal reports of retaliation declined to .66% of all reports received, but substantiation rates of retaliation reports increased to 32% - the highest level recorded - up from 26% in 2016.
