Among other noteworthy findings revealed in Clermont Partners' release on its annual ESG survey of nearly 200 investors are these:

  • 67% of respondents consider ESG factors when making an investment decision, up from 47% in last year's survey.
  • Client demand and changing client preferences are the key drivers for the increased importance of ESG factors in respondents' investment strategies.
  • Investors get the most helpful information from issuers for their ESG screening from corporate sustainability reports (47%) and annual reports (43%).
  • Corporate governance (the "G") is the most important factor respondents consider in making an investment, as shown here:

The release also notes that 40% of respondents said they use MSCI ratings, compared to 32% that use ISS and 23% that use Sustainalytics. Further, 95% of respondents said they don't follow SASB, and 35% follow no formal sustainability frameworks.
