Corporate Culture Oversight: Here's How!

Russell Reynolds new post: "Is Your Board Accountable?" offers ten sound tips for boards to consider as they explore how best to oversee the corporate culture, which - until relatively recently - was not expected to occupy time or a permanent spot on the board's agenda.

In addition to the suggested initiatives that boards can pursue to better understand and influence the corporate culture, the post identifies numerous metrics boards can consider to assist their evaluation and monitoring including: (i) internal data (e.g., hotline call reports, exit interview information, employee survey results); (ii) peer company comparisons in particular topic areas and available on social media outlets like Glassdoor; and (iii) internal and peer demographics in areas such as pay gaps, employee turnover, and promotion rates. The post suggests consideration of management's use and periodic presentation to the board/board committee of a dashboard that includes the metrics that are the most meaningful for the company to assist in the board's oversight efforts.
