Broadridge reported hosting 1,494 virtual shareholder meetings from January 1 - June 30, 2020, compared to 326 over the same period last year, as well as these additional statistics:
Not surprisingly, average meeting attendance varied considerably by company size, with large-caps averaging 122 attendees, compared to 37 and 30 attendees for mid-cap and small-cap companies, respectively. 193 of the 1,494 VSMs included shareholder proposals, resulting in more attendees, more questions, and longer meetings, as shown above.
Nearly all (97%) VSMs that Broadridge hosted permitted live questions; 11% allowed questions in advance of the meeting. Shareholders averaged five questions/meeting; however, one (unnamed) meeting generated 316 questions.
