Benchmarking CEO & NEO Perks

Equilar’s review of 2021 proxy statements for the 500 largest listed companies revealed these statistics and trends relative to disclosable aircraft, automotive and professional services perks for 2020:

Aircraft (personal use of private aircrafts, including, e.g., fuel expenses)

  • Prevalence: 51% of CEOs and 15% of all other NEOs
  • Value: $86,000 for CEOs and $27,980 for all other NEOs

Automotive (ground transportation, including company-provided cars, chauffeurs, and auto insurance)

  • Prevalence: 25.4% of CEOs and 23.4% of all other NEOs
  • Value: ~$20,000 for CEOs and $15,000 for all other NEOs

Professional Services (e.g., tax prep/planning services, financial counseling/planning, legal services, estate planning, administrative/secretarial services, and security personnel)

  • Prevalence: 29.4% of CEOs and 31% of all other NEOs
  • Value: $14,221 for CEOs and $11,440 for all other NEOs

The median value of perks in 2020 for CEOs and other NEOs generally declined compared to 2018 and 2019.
