Ceres’ new “Investor Guide to Corporate Greenhouse Gas Commitments” is aimed at helping investors evaluate companies’ GHG commitments and engage with companies to increase their climate action ambition. Based on Ceres’ “Ambition Spectrum” (explained in the guide), most S&P 500 and high-emitting sector companies purportedly are at the lower end of the spectrum:
The guide identifies, explains, and provides examples of commitments companies commonly make to reduce their GHG emissions and climate impacts; slots them into the “Ambition Spectrum”; and provides guidance to investors in the form of “fact sheets” on how to engage with companies on clean energy goals, GHG reduction goals and science-based targets, net zero and carbon neutrality goals; carbon credits, Scope 3 emissions, transition plans, and just and equitable transition plans.
