One-Third of S&P 500 Form 10-K Comment Letters Climate-Focused

Of the 31 S&P 500 companies that received a Form 10-K SEC comment letter released in the 3-month period December 4, 2021 – March 4, 2022, ten letters, or approximately 33% of the total, were climate change-related, according to MyLogIQ's “Climate Change Comment Letter Report.”

Among the key takeaways from the firm’s analysis of these letters:

The letters collectively encompassed 59 climate disclosure comments, with quantification of the physical impacts of weather damage being the most prevalent topic, as shown here:
The Consumer Goods sector was most often targeted (30%), followed by Financials and Technology & Communications (each at 20%).

The report includes comment letter excerpts addressing weather-related damage, cap-ex, consistency with CSR/website disclosure, indirect consequences on business trends, litigation risk, and transition risk.
