GRI’s “ESG standards, frameworks and everything in between” is noteworthy for its explanation of the differences between sustainability “standards” and “frameworks,” which are frequently used interchangeably (inaccurately). The below graphic shows where many of the most commonly referenced acronyms are situated.
GRI and SASB, the former of which focuses on multi-stakeholder impact reporting and the latter of which focuses on disclosure of the impact of sustainability risks on the company (investor-focused disclosures), are identified as the only two global scale reporting standards subject to the planned development of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards and the forthcoming ISSB standards.
