JUST Capital reported on the results of its analysis of Russell 1000 publicly disclosed (e.g., annual report, Form 10-K, proxy, sustainability report) climate commitments across four categories—emissions reduction commitments, net zero by 2050, Science-Based Target Initiative for 2 Degree Scenario (verified 2-degree SBTi), and SBTi for 1.5 Degree Scenario (verified 1.5-degree SBTi).
Year over year, an additional 86 companies set emissions reductions goals; 136 additional companies made a “net zero by 2050” commitment; 20 additional companies disclosed verified 2-degree SBTi targets; and 14 additional companies set verified 1.5-degree SBTi targets.
By industry, Utilities industry companies lead both in number and percentage of companies (61%) on net zero commitments, followed by Software industry companies (29%). Software leads in number on verified SBTi 1.5-degree commitments (nine companies), while Clothing & Accessories companies and Personal Products companies lead by percentage of companies at 54% and 30%, respectively.
