UBS’s annual stewardship report reveals these and other noteworthy statistics for 2023:
- Of 320 companies engaged (471 meetings), 43% were with American companies, with climate change being the most prevalent engagement topic by a wide margin.
- UBS voted at 11,445 shareholder meetings on 117,512 resolutions (3,298 meetings and 32,156 proposals for the Americas specifically), with 16% of votes cast against company recommendations.
- Of 1,188 ESG shareholder proposals voted, 198 were environmental-related (of which 129 were climate-related) and 304 were social-related. The balance related to corporate governance topics.
- Globally, UBS supported 51% of ESG shareholder proposals: 68% of climate proposals (75% in the Americas); 58% of social proposals, and 47% of corporate governance proposals.
- The vast majority of votes on climate-related shareholder proposals took place in the Americas and the most common category was GHG emissions, as shown here:
