Benchmarking AI-Related Disclosures in Form 10-Ks

By Randi Morrison posted 09-09-2024 07:06 PM

According to this new Arize report, of the 323 Fortune 500 companies (65%) that referenced AI in their most recent Form 10-K, 108 (22%) mentioned Generative AI (GenAI) specifically, most commonly in the context of Risk Factors. Notably, more than half of Fortune 500 companies in the following industries provided AI (not necessarily GenAI) risk disclosure: Media & Entertainment, Software & Technology, Telecommunications, Healthcare, Financial Services, Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods, and Aerospace/Defense.

The report groups GenAI Risk Factor disclosures into the following four categories. Examples (with links to the source) are provided.

 Competitive Risks

 General Harms

 Regulatory Risks

 Security Risks

 Netflix

 Motorola

 Walt Disney

 Vertex Pharma

 Realogy (Anywhere Real Estate)

 Salesforce

 Constellation Brands

 Viatris

 S&P Global

 AT&T

 MarshMcLennan

Other examples of GenAI disclosures outside of the risk context (e.g., strategic, opportunistic) are included as well.
