Greenhouse Gas Protocol: Scope 2 Consultation

By Randi Morrison posted 10-16-2025 07:24 PM

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol released the first in a series of planned communications regarding the substance of its forthcoming public consultation on revisions to the Scope 2 guidance. For contextual purposes, note that California’s SB 253 (as well as other voluntary and mandatory climate disclosure standards/frameworks and presumably other state laws in the future) requires emissions reporting in conformance with the GHG Protocol standards and guidance. The Society, under the auspices of the Sustainability Practices Committee, plans to weigh in on the consultation. Members interested in participating in a working group for this purpose, please email Randi Morrison.

Proposed revisions are summarized below and further detailed in the GHG Protocol’s post. Note the concerns expressed about the proposed changes in this Trellis post.

The consultation is planned to be launched this month and will remain open for 60 days.
