In “Reimagining governance basics amid a new normal,” Deloitte encourages boards to revisit core governance practices through the lens of today’s increasingly complex and volatile risk environment. The report suggests that recalibrating foundational practices can help boards promote long-term value creation, resilience, and organizational agility.

Among the areas highlighted for review and potential refinement:

  • Composition and Structure—Board composition and refreshment; alignment of committee structure and associated responsibilities with the company’s evolving risk profile and strategy
  • Processes—The structure and substance of board pre-read materials; effectiveness of presentations and agendas; and the quality of board–management engagement and information flow
  • Culture and Board Dynamics—The rigor and follow-through of board and director evaluations; ongoing director education; and leadership by the board chair in fostering open dialogue and constructive challenge

The publication outlines practical considerations to help boards assess whether their governance fundamentals remain aligned with the company’s strategy, risk profile, and long-term objectives.
