State Street’s Stewardship report 2025 reveals these and other noteworthy statistics for calendar year 2025:

  • State Street voted in accordance with management’s recommendations on ~92% of shareholder proposals (based on ~5,300 proposals) and ~82% of management proposals (based on ~212,400 proposals) worldwide.
  • By shareholder proposal category, it voted against management’s recommendations most frequently on proposals related to companies’ routine business or articles, followed by compensation-related proposals and corporate governance proposals.
  • State Street’s support for sustainability-related shareholder proposals worldwide fell to ~6% in 2025, the lowest level in at least seven years and a continued decline from nearly 30% support in 2021.\

  • In the US, State Street supported 7% of environmental and social shareholder proposals in 2025, consistent with 2024 levels. The report notes that support increased for shareholder proposals seeking enhanced disclosures related to worker health and safety.

The report also provides—among other things—detailed data on engagement and proxy voting activities across markets and issue areas; examples of company engagements and stewardship outcomes; and further insight into how State Street approaches long-term shareholder value and accountability.
