Founded in 1792 in New York, the NYSE is the world's largest securities exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies - at over $16.5 trillion as of mid-2013. To become and remain listed on the exchange, a company must meet specific quantitative (objective financial and share distribution criteria) and qualitative (corporate governance and ongoing status) standards. NYSE Group merged with Euronext in 2007. NYSE Euronext then acquired the American Stock Exchange in 2008. NYSE Euronext is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange.
