Code of Conduct

In-person and virtual programs, including our National and chapter meetings, events, conferences, virtual roundtables, discussion groups, and webinars (collectively, “Programs”), are critical to advancing the educational component of the Society’s mission.

The Society is committed to fostering safe and inclusive environments where governance practitioners and professionals, and those serving and supporting the corporate governance community, can share information and ideas; raise challenges, concerns, and opportunities; and collaborate on solutions.

To support this commitment, the Society has established policies and guidelines for all individuals attending and participating in Society-hosted or sponsored Programs. This includes Society employees, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, service providers, media, presenters, attendees, and others.

Media Attendance Policy

The Society for Corporate Governance hosts several events throughout the year such as the National Conference, Essentials for Corporate Governance, and Essentials Express. These events are not public events.

Members of the media (e.g., journalists, reporters, radio personalities, photographers, film crews, and others) are not permitted to attend the National Conference or other Society events without prior approval by the Society and registration for the event.
Media representatives requesting to attend the National Conference or other events must present proof that they are a journalist and have published on topics that are consistent with the Society mission.

If attendance is approved by the Society, in addition to adherence to the Society’s Event Participation and Engagement Code of Conduct, media attendees:

  • May be permitted to attend only specific events or activities
  • May be prohibited from attending particular events or activities that are restricted to particular types of members (e.g., in-house governance professionals or practitioners), subject to the Chatham House Rule, subject to a participant-requested media restriction, or otherwise not accessible to the media
  • May be required to provide an advance copy or a draft for review by the Society of any article or other proposed publication
  • Are required to wear or display special press badges at the events at all times so that Society members and other attendees know they are speaking with members of the press or other media.

Requests for media attendance should be emailed to Nikole TenBrink, Chief Membership and Marketing Officer.
