An unnamed Democratic Senator's objection has reportedly triggered a hold on SEC Commissioner candidate Hester Peirce's nomination, according to WSJ reporter Andrew Ackerman - making the near-term confirmations of Peirce, a Republican, and Democratic SEC Commissioner nominee Lisa Fairfax, even more unlikely.
As previously reported, last month, the Senate Banking Committee voted to approve the two nominations to fill the vacant Commissioner spots on the SEC despite continuing opposition from four Democratic senators who previously indicated their intent to vote against the nominations (reported on here) on the basis of the nominees' refusal to commit to back political spending disclosure rulemaking.
However, Politico had previously observed that the Committee's approval wouldn't necessarily clear the way for a Senate confirmation, indicating: "If the committee is able to muster enough votes this time around, it is unclear how quickly the nominees would be confirmed by the full Senate. It is unlikely they would get time on the floor, meaning they would probably need to move by unanimous consent, which would put them at risk of a hold by any one senator."
