SEC Releases Draft Strategic Plan for Public Comment

The SEC released its draft Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2026–2030 for public comment. The plan is organized around three goals: (1) renewing the agency’s regulatory policy focus to support innovation, capital formation, market efficiency, and investor protection; (2) increasing stakeholder engagement, facilitating compliance efforts, and refocusing enforcement on violations of established law; and (3) improving operational efficiency through organizational, technology, and workforce initiatives.

Notably, the draft plan reflects Chair Atkins’ emphasis on the SEC’s core statutory mission of protecting investors, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitating capital formation. Among other priorities, the plan calls for establishing a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets and distributed ledger technologies, reviewing existing disclosure and reporting requirements, reassessing certain market structure rules, and conducting retrospective reviews of regulations affecting areas such as foreign private issuers, executive compensation, and private fund reporting.

Comments on the draft plan are due July 2, 2026.
