According to Equilar's “Gender Diversity Index” (GDI), which tracks and reports quarterly on the progress of board gender diversity for the Russell 3000, women represented more than 24% of Russell 3000 board seats at March 31, 2021, reflecting a 10.5% increase year-over-year, and compared to just 15.1% of board seats as of the end of 2016, when the GDI began tracking this data. The post notes that numerous factors have contributed to an uptick in female representation including investor, consumer, and other stakeholder expectations and pressures, as well as local legislation. The report includes a plethora of statistics that illustrate the progress toward board gender parity, as well as state-specific benchmarking.
